ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY A high-impact opportunity to join a trading platform based in Amsterdam as a Senior/Lead Backend Engineer. This is not an implementation-only role — the client is looking for someone who drives technical decisions, challenges assumptions, and shapes architecture from the ground up. Language: English B2 minimum | Level: Senior–Lead | Location: Portugal-based, fully remote PROJECT & CONTEXT You'll be working on the backend of an Amsterdam-based trading platform, contributing directly to system architecture design, technical decision-making, and the evolution of a serverless AWS-based infrastructure. The environment is dynamic and intentionally ambiguous — the right candidate will bring structure and technical clarity, not wait for it. Stack: TypeScript, AWS Lambda (Serverless), AWS CDK, DynamoDB, TypeSpec WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR • Senior or lead-level experience in TypeScript backend development , with production-grade delivery in complex environments • Strong hands-on experience with AWS Serverless architecture, specifically AWS Lambda and AWS CDK • Experience with DynamoDB or comparable NoSQL database solutions • Ability to design and discuss system architecture at a high level — not just implement, but shape and own technical direction • Proven capacity to evaluate technical trade-offs and propose well-reasoned alternatives • Confidence to challenge assumptions constructively and drive better outcomes through technical debate • Ability to work autonomously in ambiguous environments where requirements evolve and clarity needs to be created • Familiarity with TypeSpec or similar API specification tooling • English B2 or above — required for collaboration with the Amsterdam-based client team • Based in Portugal , available to work fully remotely NICE TO HAVE • Experience evolving and modernising existing architectures — migrating, refactoring, or incrementally improving production systems without disrupting delivery • Strong communication skills across both engineering peers and non-technical stakeholders • Background in fintech, trading, or capital markets environments where performance and reliability are critical
