Job description

We are seeking a Coverage Defense Attorney to join the in-house legal team of a direct-writer auto insurance company operating in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. This is a hybrid role based in Princeton, NJ — 4 days onsite, 1 day remote — with flexible daily start times. You will handle insurance coverage defense litigation from inception through trial and appeal, managing a full caseload independently in a collaborative, well-supported environment. The team operates in a fully paperless electronic litigation environment with modern courtroom presentation tools. What You'll Be Doing • Handle insurance coverage defense litigation matters from inception through trial and appeal • Manage first-party and third-party personal auto insurance claims • Defend and litigate PIP-related matters • Handle coverage disputes involving BI, UM/UIM, auto physical damage, rescission, and order of priority issues • Take and defend depositions; argue motions in limine and other litigation motions • Conduct trials through verdict; present and cross-examine expert and lay witnesses • Independently manage a full caseload in a paperless electronic litigation environment • Work closely with litigation support staff What We're Looking For • Minimum 5+ years of civil litigation experience • Mandatory PIP insurance defense litigation experience — required • Strong insurance coverage defense background with trial experience through verdict • Experience handling first-party and/or third-party personal auto insurance claims • Strong deposition, negotiation, and legal writing skills • Knowledge of New Jersey discovery rules, trial procedures, and substantive insurance law • Experience with coverage matters involving rescission and order of priority • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school; active New Jersey Bar license in good standing Benefits • Hybrid: 4 days onsite / 1 day remote | Flexible start times (8:00, 8:30, or 9:00 AM) • Medical, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k) with company match • PTO, sick leave, and paid holidays; Life and AD&D insurance; FSA & HSA plans • Employee Assistance Program, wellness reimbursements, gym discounts, pet insurance The Employee Connect is a staffing partner for this opportunity.
