<p><strong>Frontend Software Engineer — Secure Mission Systems</strong></p> <p><strong>Build Secure Software for High-Impact Defense Missions</strong></p> <p>Build secure, interactive software that helps users understand complex information, evaluate options, and make mission-critical decisions.</p> <p>As a Frontend Software Engineer at Rackner, you will develop modern application features for a secure mission-planning and decision-support platform supporting a Department of Defense customer. You will translate complex data and technical requirements into clear, responsive user experiences using React, TypeScript, and related technologies.</p> <p>This is a primarily remote role within the United States. Work will be performed through customer-provided systems, with virtual collaboration across the engineering team and in-person sprint planning at a customer facility in Laurel, Maryland, approximately every six weeks.</p> <p>You will work on more than isolated interface tickets. This role gives you the opportunity to deepen your experience across secure frontend development, API integration, data-rich applications, automated testing, and collaboration with backend, AI/ML, security, and platform engineers.</p> <p>This position is contingent upon contract award and final customer approval. The anticipated start date is November 2026.</p> <p><strong>What You’ll Do</strong></p> <ul> <li>Build interactive frontend features using React and TypeScript</li> <li>Turn complex mission and technical information into clear, usable workflows</li> <li>Connect frontend components to APIs and backend services</li> <li>Support data-rich, map-based, and decision-support application features</li> <li>Present application data and AI-enabled outputs in ways users can understand and act on</li> <li>Write maintainable, testable code that meets functional and security requirements</li> <li>Develop unit and integration tests for application features</li> <li>Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and security remediation</li> <li>Document application workflows, design decisions, and technical changes</li> <li>Collaborate remotely with backend, AI/ML, security, DevSecOps, and customer engineering teams</li> <li>Participate in periodic onsite sprint planning and technical collaboration in Laurel</li> </ul> <p><strong>What You’ll Bring</strong></p> <ul> <li>At least four years of software-development experience</li> <li>Hands-on experience building modern frontend applications</li> <li>Experience working with React and TypeScript</li> <li>Experience integrating user interfaces with APIs or backend services</li> <li>Understanding of component-based development, application state, and data flow</li> <li>Familiarity with Git-based development and secure software-development practices</li> <li>Ability to write and test clear, maintainable code</li> <li>Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field</li> </ul> <p><strong>Experience That Can Strengthen Your Fit</strong></p> <p>Experience with several of the following can improve alignment, but deep expertise in every area is not expected:</p> <ul> <li>Cesium, CesiumJS, or another geospatial or mapping framework</li> <li>Map-based, spatial, or data-visualization applications</li> <li>OpenShift, Kubernetes, or another containerized environment</li> <li>GitLab and secure CI/CD workflows</li> <li>FastAPI, Flask, Python, or API development</li> <li>Automated testing and vulnerability remediation</li> <li>Defense, aerospace, command-and-control, or mission-planning software</li> <li>Frontend integration of AI-assisted recommendations or decision-support capabilities</li> </ul> <p>Why Rackner</p> <p>At Rackner, you will have the opportunity to build secure technology that supports critical defense and public-sector missions.</p> <p>You will work on more than isolated frontend requirements.
