Overview The Associate Manager-Safety designs, develops, implements, and oversees the organization’s health and safety programs (work environment), policies, and procedures to ensure that all facilities are in compliance with current and future OSHA, EPA, ADA, DOL, and DOT regulations and laws. This position also partners with Field Services and Construction & Service Enablement operations and serves as the subject matter expert (SME) on current safety training requirements of our field and internal construction, including processes and safety equipment such as fire suppression. This position also provides daily leadership and coaching to the Safety team members. An ideal candidate for this position will reside within one of the following locations, though telecommute privledges are available: Wisconsin (any city), Idaho (any city), Montana (any city), Washington (Spokane) Responsibilities Responsible for safety audits and inspections to identify workplace hazards and unsafe equipment, working practices, and working conditions. Conducts field audits and inspections to ensure compliance with business unit policy and government regulations. Plans, manages, develops, and implements best practice safety programs. This includes written safety programs, proactive development of safety agenda topics for team meetings, and coordination of safety training for field associates, e.g. field technician and internal construction safety training, Outside Plant (OSP) construction safety courses, outdoor heat exposure, fall protection, etc. Safety Team Leadership and Coaching • Participates as a member of the leadership team to develop and execute strategy for the safety function. Helps to prioritize team goals, training, and projects. • Provides leadership to team including hiring, development, training, mentoring, and coaching. Oversees the research, selection, and standardization of new safety equipment, with continued monitoring to ensure equipment meets TDS’ needs. Leads efforts to replace or substitute products or vendors as needed. May implement hazardous waste control and disposal activities including training, collection, disposal, and records maintenance, as well as conservation programs within the organization as the result of audit, inspection, and/or research. Promotes safety and health awareness through internal communications, newsletters, and training. Qualifications Required Qualifications • Bachelors’ degree (or higher) OR 4+ years professional work experience. • 4+ years’ safety and security program management experience -OR- 4+ years’ experience in a safety-sensitive position. • 2+ years’ leadership or mentoring experience. • 2+ years’ technical telecommunications experience. Other Qualifications • Underground Construction experience strongly preferred. • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or commitment to obtain the same. • Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, First Aid, and Ergonomics. • Security background (security cameras, threats) working with outside security companies. • Facilities background a plus. • A professional attitude and courteous manner towards clients, partners, and staff. • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (i.e., verbal, written, listening). Ability to provide consulting to TDS leadership and personnel. • Strong presentation and communication skills. • Ability to make difficult decisions concerning complex issues, often in areas where there is no precedent. • Ability to organize priorities to achieve maximum performance cost effectively. • Ability to multi-task a variety of projects with diverse groups. • Will be expected to travel as the job dictates the need.
