As a Volunteer Crisis Counselor, you will work closely with Crisis Counselor Supervisors to provide de-escalation to people in crisis via a text-based service. You will provide empathy and compassion while collaborating with your Crisis Counselor Supervisor on any necessary external intervention. You will provide high-quality service supporting our texters while adhering to training and clinical policies and procedures.</p><p></p><p><i>Want to learn more about Crisis Text Line? Visit their page: </i><a href="https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/www.crisistextline.org/become-a-volunteer/__;!!BeImMA!4532GzZNi-Rzs1fjlJcmClNkcmudaTOPOJy6RQpSzIZ30OckIp89O83F5aaCjP0t4lKJT_IwxXaUAY_bp8ki1SG6$" target="_blank">https://www.crisistextline.org/become-a-volunteer/</a></p><p></p><p><b>Job Responsibilities: </b></p><ul><li><p>Participate in suicide and crisis intervention training</p></li><li><p>De-escalate individuals in crisis by using best practices in the field of suicidology, as well as empathy and good contact techniques</p></li><li><p>Connect individuals in crisis to appropriate resources</p></li><li><p>Maintain appropriate levels of boundaries and confidentiality/privacy with individuals in crisis</p></li></ul><p><b>Minimum Qualifications:</b></p><ul><li><p>Enrollment in the following degree programs: Psychology, Sociology, Human Services.  General Studies with a concentration in these areas</p></li><li><p>Current enrollment in classes as part of a SNHU degree program</p></li><li><p>Work study as part of the financial aid package</p></li><li><p>18 years of age​</p></li><li><p>Must complete and pass a background check</p></li><li><p>Must have your own laptop/desktop computer with reliable internet</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Learning Outcomes:</b></p><ul><li><p><span>Develop Communication skills through professional interactions with staff and clients. </span></p></li><li><p><span>Build Professionalism through reliability, accountability, and workplace etiquette.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Improve Critical Thinking by solving problems and making informed decisions in daily tasks.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Increase Career &amp; Self-Development through workplace experience and professional growth.</span></p></li><li><p><span>Develop Equity &amp; Inclusion awareness by interacting respectfully with diverse populations.</span></p></li></ul><p></p><p><b><span>Work Schedule</span></b><br />Mon-Sun, flexible scheduling. Actual offer will be based on skills, qualifications, experience and internal equity, in addition to relevant business considerations.
