Tax Accountant (Real Estate) This is a remote tax preparation seat supporting a property management and investment focused organization that manages residential portfolios and investment funds. You will own the preparation and filing of U.S. federal and state tax returns for real estate holding companies and related entities, applying real estate specific tax rules, including depreciation, accelerated depreciation, and cost segregation. This is a fully independent seat: the candidate must be able to own a recurring book of tax preparation work from day one, with no training or ramp up period. Success looks like accurate, on time filings across assigned entities and minimal rework during review. What You'll Own - Prepare and file U.S. federal and state tax returns for real estate holding companies and related entities - Prepare tax returns involving rental properties, real estate investments, and property holding entities - Review financial statements, property records, and supporting documentation required for accurate tax preparation - Ensure tax returns are complete, accurate, and filed within applicable deadlines - Review prior year returns and supporting workpapers to identify relevant information and potential tax issues - Coordinate with internal teams to obtain missing financial and property level information - Maintain organized tax workpapers and documentation supporting all filings - Apply appropriate depreciation treatment to rental properties and real estate assets, including accelerated depreciation and cost segregation studies - Identify tax treatment considerations specific to real estate holding companies and support identification of legitimate tax planning opportunities - Stay current on relevant changes to U.S. tax regulations affecting real estate investors and property holding entities - Work closely with internal accounting, operations, and leadership teams to ensure tax information is accurate and complete - Flag discrepancies, missing documentation, or potential tax risks before filing What We're Looking For - Active PTIN, or willingness to obtain one before December - Strong experience preparing and filing U.S. tax returns - Direct, hands on experience with U.S. taxation for real estate holding companies and rental properties, deep enough to work independently with no training or ramp up - Strong understanding of depreciation and its application to real estate assets - Hands on experience with accelerated depreciation and or cost segregation - Strong understanding of U.S. real estate tax strategies and compliance requirements - Ability to independently manage a full, recurring book of tax preparation work with strong attention to detail - Strong analytical and problem solving skills - Advanced written and spoken English (C1 or C2) - Ability to work U.S. business hours, with some overlap across U.S. time zones preferred (CST alignment is a plus, not a hard requirement) Nice to Have - Experience working with U.S. based real estate investment, property management, or accounting organizations - Experience preparing returns for multiple real estate holding companies or investment entities - Familiarity with U.S. tax preparation and accounting software - Experience working with real estate investors, property owners, or investment funds - Experience with tax planning in addition to tax compliance and preparation Details - Location: Remote, Latin America - Time zone: CST alignment required - Compensation: $3500 - $4000 - Type: Full time contractor
