Job Description & Person Specification >
Are you practical, hands-on and take pride in fixing, maintaining and improving outdoor spaces?
Do you enjoy working outside, solving problems and delivering visible results every day?
Torbay’s Beach Services Team is looking for a Beach and Resorts Officer to help maintain and enhance Torbay’s coastline. This is a varied, active role where no two days are the same, combining customer service, site management and essential hands-on maintenance skills.
What makes this role different?
We are specifically looking to strengthen our team with someone who can bring practical maintenance expertise, particularly in:
• Carpentry work on beach huts, cabins and chalets.
• Roof maintenance including re-felting beach huts.
• Identifying faults and repairing defects quickly and effectively.
• Using tools and materials confidently to keep facilities safe and operational.
• These are key skills the team needs right now – so if you enjoy fixing things and seeing the results of your work straight away, this role will suit you perfectly.
What you’ll be doing
• Carrying out maintenance and repairs across beach huts, chalets and seafront facilities.
• Inspecting sites and taking action to resolve issues before they become bigger problems.
• Preparing and maintaining beach huts and visitor facilities throughout the season.
• Supporting the cleanliness, safety and presentation of Torbay’s beaches.
• Working with the operational team and engaging with the public, visitors and tenants.
• Helping deliver a safe, welcoming and high-quality environment across Torbay.
Working pattern
• The role includes regular weekend working during the busy season (1st May to 1st September) as part of a rota, alongside weekday duties.
Why join the Beach Services Team?
• Work in some of the most scenic locations in Torbay.
• Be part of a close-knit, supportive and hardworking team.
• Enjoy a role that is active, varied and outdoors.
• See the direct impact of your work on the visitor experience.
• Play a key role in maintaining the high standards required for English Riviera Beach Standards.
• Gain experience across maintenance, operations and customer-facing services.
What we’re looking for
• Strong practical skills in DIY, carpentry or maintenance work.
• Ability to work independently and solve problems on site.
• A proactive approach to identifying and fixing defects.
• Confidence using hand and power tools.
• A flexible team player who can work outdoors in all conditions.
• Great communication skills and a commitment to customer service.
• If you’re someone who takes pride in keeping things working, enjoys outdoor work and wants to be part of a team that makes a real difference to Torbay’s coastline – we’d love to hear from you.
This post meets the requirements of the Public Services Network (PSN) and therefore will require a Basic Criminal Record Check. This will show any unspent convictions and conditional cautions.
