THE OPPORTUNITY As Bioinformatics Technician, you will operate and maintain aspects of our bioinformatics pipeline. You will monitor incoming data deliveries, run samples on our bioinformatics pipeline, and perform standardized quality control. Beyond your core responsibilities with the bioinformatics pipeline, you will also support the science, clinical research, and customer support teams by compiling datasets, performing analyses and responding to customer issues. We are looking for someone who is highly organized, resourceful, and comfortable operating with significant autonomy. The ideal candidate enjoys working with data, solving problems, and taking ownership of both scientific and operational outcomes. This position reports directly to the Bioinformatics Engineer and works closely with our broader science team. WHAT YOU’LL DO - Manage day-to-day operations of Tiny Health's bioinformatics pipeline - Track samples from when the data is delivered to final release of the results - Monitor a cloud-based bioinformatics pipeline for failures - Perform standardized batch-level quality control analyses - Provide computational support to the science and clinical research teams by generating datasets and performing short analyses - Work closely with the customer support team to resolve issues affecting customers - Collaborate with scientists, bioinformaticians, and external partners to advance research objectives - Maintain accurate records and documentation QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED - Bachelor's, Master's, or equivalent experience in Biology, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Microbiology or a related field - Experience with bioinformatics pipelines - Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, R. - Experience with AI tools - Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail - Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Ability to work independently and prioritize competing responsibilities in a fast-paced environment PREFERRED - Experience working with microbiome, microbial ecology, or metagenomics datasets particularly in humans - Experience in the biotech industry, especially start-ups - Experience with shotgun metagenomic bioinformatics workflows - Experience with SQL or other databases - Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms - Previous experience in a fast-paced startup environment - Work experience in DTC health/wellness companies - Experience working remotely, with proficiency in Slack - Self-directed, proactive, and comfortable with ambiguity HOW WE WORK - Remote-First Company: our working hours follow a 2 hour window from 9 am - 6 pm CST - Driven by an ambitious mission: we're reinventing how we should think about wellness from the first 1,000 days to the last - Shape what we build, not just how we build it: we prioritize experimentation with taking ownership, and moving fast - No hidden agendas: we operate with full transparency because when everyone's working from the same honest picture, you spend less time on politics and more time on impact - High standards, human culture: we hold ourselves to a high bar and do it alongside a team who can laugh at themselves and make the hard days genuinely enjoyable OUR VALUES 1. Learn Fast, Get Better We’re human, so mistakes happen. What separates good teams from great ones is what happens next: finding the real root cause, not just patching the symptom, so the same problem doesn’t come back. We expect humility, curiosity, and a real hunger for feedback. 2. Be Relentlessly Resourceful Take initiative. Dig for the answer yourself before you ask. But know when asking for help is the smart move, not a last resort. Resourcefulness is judgment: managing your time and everyone else’s, making the right tradeoffs, and moving fast. 3. Think Like an Owner, Act with Urgency Ask yourself: how would I act if this were my company? We build the systems and culture to let you answer that yourself, and we expect you to. But ownership isn’t just judgment, it’s intensity. Owners don’t clock out when something needs to get done. If it takes an extra hour, an extra weekend, or one more attempt to close the deal or ship the feature, you find the will to do it. Ownership means being accountable for the outcome, not just the task, and having the hunger to see it through. 4. Act with Honesty and Empathy We say what’s true, directly. And we say it with care for the person hearing it. Honesty without empathy is just bluntness. Empathy without honesty is just avoidance. We hold both, with each other and with the outside world. 5. Delight People by Anticipating Their Needs When someone comes to us with a problem, we don’t just solve it. We get two steps ahead and show up before they even ask. That’s how you turn a customer into a raving fan, and we treat our own teammates the same way.
