Job description

Accountabilities • Develop, enhance, and maintain production software supporting an interactive learning platform and its related products. • Design and evolve robust data models to support current and future application requirements. • Write, profile, troubleshoot, and optimize SQL queries to ensure reliable and high-performing applications. • Build and maintain backend services and application functionality using Ruby on Rails. • Develop responsive and engaging front-end experiences using JavaScript and modern frameworks such as React. • Work with PostgreSQL databases in a production environment, ensuring data integrity, scalability, and performance. • Contribute across a variety of projects, including content authoring tools, AI-powered learning products, student experiences, and core platform capabilities. • Collaborate directly with stakeholders across the organization to understand requirements, solve problems, and deliver effective technical solutions. • Work autonomously in a fast-paced environment while taking ownership of engineering projects and technical decisions. • Continuously learn and apply new technologies, engineering practices, and approaches as product and business needs evolve. • Contribute to infrastructure and deployment initiatives, with opportunities to support DevOps capabilities where relevant. Requirements • 5+ years of professional experience developing with Ruby on Rails in a production environment. • Strong experience designing and evolving relational data models. • Demonstrated ability to write, profile, analyze, and optimize SQL queries. • At least 3 years of experience with JavaScript and modern front-end frameworks, such as React. • Production experience working with PostgreSQL. • Ability to work independently, take ownership, and operate effectively in a fast-paced startup environment. • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the versatility to move between different technical challenges and projects. • Effective communication and collaboration skills, particularly when working directly with non-engineering stakeholders. • Authorization to work in the United States. • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is preferred. • DevOps experience is a plus, particularly with Kubernetes, Helm, and related technologies.
