Part-Time Financial Compliance Auditor – AML/CFT
Location: Honduras – Remote (Tegucigalpa or San Pedro Sula preferred)
Schedule: Part-time, 20 hours per week
Initial Term: Two-month pilot, with potential month-to-month extension
Languages: Professional English and Spanish
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Financial Compliance Auditor to conduct independent examinations of regulated financial entities and assess compliance with applicable regulatory and AML/CFT requirements.
This is a hands-on examination role. The selected professional will be responsible for testing compliance certifications, reviewing supporting evidence, conducting risk-based testing, documenting findings, and maintaining examination workpapers that can withstand independent third-party review.
We are specifically looking for candidates with experience examining or auditing the compliance of financial institutions or other regulated entities , rather than professionals whose experience has been limited to preparing compliance filings.
Key Responsibilities
•
Maintain and monitor periodic compliance certification requirements for regulated entities, including follow-up and escalation of overdue or missing submissions.
•
Conduct remote, risk-based examinations of regulated financial entities.
•
Review and test KYC, Customer Due Diligence (CDD), transaction monitoring, sanctions screening, and suspicious activity reporting controls .
•
Assess AML/CFT controls and, where applicable, the use and quality of blockchain analytics by money transmitters and digital asset businesses.
•
Perform risk assessments, sampling, control testing, and evidence review.
•
Prepare complete examination workpapers documenting:
•
Scope and methodology
•
Sampling approach
•
Testing performed
•
Evidence obtained
•
Findings and conclusions
•
Management responses
•
Document findings according to severity, establish required corrective actions and deadlines, and monitor remediation through closure.
•
Maintain accurate audit, certification, finding, and examination records.
•
Record time dedicated to each regulated entity.
•
Identify situations where existing regulatory requirements cannot be effectively tested or where actual practices differ from established requirements and escalate them appropriately.
Required Qualifications
•
5+ years of relevant professional experience in one or more of the following:
•
Financial-sector examination
•
Internal or external audit
•
Regulatory compliance
•
AML/CFT compliance
•
Demonstrated experience personally conducting audit or examination fieldwork , including:
•
Risk assessment
•
Sampling
•
Control testing
•
Workpaper preparation
•
Written audit findings
•
Experience within a regulated financial environment , such as banking, insurance, fintech, financial services, or financial regulatory/supervisory institutions.
•
Working knowledge of Honduran AML/CFT requirements .
•
Knowledge of the FATF Forty Recommendations .
•
Familiarity with the GAFILAT regulatory/evaluation environment.
•
Professional proficiency in both English and Spanish , written and spoken.
•
Strong analytical skills and ability to work independently with limited supervision.
•
Ability to operate effectively in an environment where processes and examination procedures are still being developed.
Preferred Qualifications
•
Previous experience with CNBS, UFI, a Honduran bank or insurer, a financial-services audit practice, or a regulated fintech .
•
Experience examining:
•
Money services businesses / money transmitters
•
Digital asset or cryptocurrency businesses
•
Insurance companies
•
Experience with blockchain transaction monitoring or blockchain analytics.
•
Professional certifications such as CAMS, ICA, CPA, CIA, Honduran Contador Público , or another relevant audit/compliance certification.
Scope of the Role
This position is focused on applying and testing existing regulatory standards .
It is not responsible for designing the long-term supervisory framework, developing regulatory policy, benchmarking regulations, building a team, or managing staff.
The primary objective is straightforward: examine, test, document, identify findings, and verify remediation.
